WebI suggest if you want to access files from outside of your home network set up NFS, FTP or nextcloud which is like Google drive but self-hosted. I would agree the preferred method on the forum is to use Nextcloud with Letsencrypt, I think some users have used WebDav as well. I will look into NextCloud.
